I get prickly bumps on my inner thighs when i shave, what should i do?

Every time i shave my thighs, i'm left with prickly little bumps on my inner thighs? how do i avoid these, how can i get a smooth shave and why does this happen? is it because my thighs are a bit chubby or too soft?
