How do you get rid of small coarse ingrown hair on the face?

Since turning 30 I have been going nuts with this problem. I have these small extremely coarse and prickly hairs that keep coming back on my chin and jawline. They keep getting ingrown and infected leaving these ugly bumps. My husband says he can not even see them but I feel them even before they hit the surface and it drives me crazy. There is usually just one there and then a day or two another one near the same spot after I pull them out and they always come back. They are actually pretty painful. I never had this happen until the last couple of years and now it is getting worse. Does this happen to anyone else and if so what do or did you do to stop it or at least help it?
