Is it bad to shave your arms...?

right, i was a little bit stupid yesterday, and shaved my arms, not completely! well i started it, but i obviously had to finish it! i have no intention of doing it again, but how long will it take for it to grow back, without it being prickly? and is there any way i can hide the stubble whilst it's growing back?
